Thousands of residential insurance claims from the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes remain unresolved. The Government recognises how frustrating these delays have been for the affected homeowners. Until their claims are resolved, they can’t move forward with their lives.
The Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal (2019) Act established the Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal in June 2019. Located in Christchurch, the Tribunal can resolve Canterbury earthquake insurance disputes in a fair, speedy, flexible and cost-effective way.
The Tribunal can only consider claims for physical loss or damage to residential buildings, property and land in the Canterbury earthquakes.
