We received helpful feedback during the consultation process in late 2023 on possible changes to the Family Court Rules to enable Te Au Reka to be implemented in the Family Court. A high-level overview, summary of submissions and key decisions which have been made is available here [PDF, 184 KB].
Informed by the submissions we received, we have now developed specific proposed changes to the Family Court Rules: the exposure draft can be found here [PDF, 1 MB]. We welcome all comments on these proposed rule changes by Monday 3 March 2025.
The Family Court Rules govern the way in which proceedings in the Family Court must be brought and dealt with.
A number of the current Family Court Rules apply primarily to paper-based systems and are not suited to the digital processes envisaged by Te Au Reka. Changes to the Family Court Rules are therefore required to enable Te Au Reka to be implemented in the Family Court.
In 2023 we sought input on areas of the Family Court Rules where changes may be required to enable the successful implementation and operation of Te Au Reka in the Family Court.
