A submitter’s name, age, gender, and ethnicity may be collected in making a submission. This information is collected to enable the Ministry of Justice to better understand the demographic who have submitted this information.
In some instances, the Ministry may inadvertently collect other information included in your submission such as home address, email address or phone number. The Ministry will not use this information to inform the Arms Act rewrite.
Submission information will be aggregated and analysed by approved Ministry of Justice employees and third-party service provider. Analysis of the submission will inform draft policy proposals for the Arms Act rewrite.
Submissions will be stored securely by the Ministry and access will be restricted to the appropriate staff.
Once the submissions are no longer needed for the Arms Act rewrite, submissions will be disposed securely and appropriately under the Public Records Act.
The Public Records Act 2005 establishes a regulatory framework for information and records management throughout the public sector.
Your submission is subject to the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). If your feedback is within scope of an OIA request for information, the Ministry is required to release the information unless one of the withholding grounds of the OIA apply.
Your submission is subject to the Privacy Act 2020 as it governs how the Ministry collects and uses personal information.
