Our Ministry website is now a Shielded Site
People experiencing family violence and sexual violence often visit our te Tāhū o te Ture - Ministry of Justice website to get information they need to ensure their safety and that of their tamariki. For example, our website has information about Protection Orders, family violence and sexual violence support services, Family Court matters and shared parenting information.
Our Ministry has now implemented the Women's Refuge Shielded Site tool on our website. It allows people to safely access information to help protect them and their whānau from violence without it showing up in their internet browser history.
The information is provided via a secure pop-up window, which is accessed by clicking a small icon. The icon sits at the bottom of every page on our website.
The Shielded Site tool provides information on how to contact the Women's Refuge, make a plan to safely get out of a dangerous situation, stay safe online and get answers to questions.
Carl Crafar, Ministry of Justice Chief Operating Officer, is the Ministry’s lead Deputy Chief Executive for family violence prevention and a White Ribbon Ambassador. Carl says the Women’s Refuge Shielded Site initiative will help people access advice and help in real time without leaving a digital footprint.
"I’m excited to see our Ministry implement the Shielded Site tool on our website – it means we can offer another layer of safety for victims of family violence and sexual violence to get the information and support they need,” says Carl.
