The latest six-monthly reports of justice statistics for the year ended June 2019 are now available.
The data tables can be viewed on the Statistics New Zealand website(external link).
The report includes statistics relating to adults charged and convicted in court, children and young people charged in court, and children and young people given an order in court (e,g, supervision with residence, discharge, adult sentence etc).
Also available are infographic and text summaries that outline some of the key trends in the data, including conviction and sentencing statistics and youth prosecution statistics.
There’s also a range of data tables of justice statistics that provide more detail on a range of topics including general justice (such as the number of charges and people charged), children and young people in court, specific offence types (such as methamphetamine and cannabis offences), name suppression and bail processes, Family Court processes (including Protection Order applications and children adopted), and information on justice services such as collections and legal aid.
