Every year about 130,000 New Zealanders are asked to give up their time to serve on a jury. You might think they do it because they have to (true) but they also do it because they believe in the right to a fair trial and want to contribute.
We may call it jury duty but it’s also a right that we are lucky to have. Trial by jury is a cornerstone of our democracy and justice system and being a juror is a way that you can contribute to your community.
