The Ministry of Justice is encouraging everyone to have their say on New Zealand’s legal aid system, which provides government funding to pay for legal help for people who cannot afford a lawyer.
The Ministry has released a discussion document for public consultation which is available for submissions from 11 June to 23 July 2025.
The start of the public consultation period was announced by the Minister of Justice, Hon Paul Goldsmith(external link).
The objective of the review is to ensure that the legal aid scheme is efficient and sustainable while also promoting access to justice.
We want to hear about what is working with our legal aid system, what isn’t working, and what we can do to improve it.
